Hey everyone, there's a new Filmari update on the App Store. This time around, I mostly did some tidying up. I fine-tuned a few small things in the app's logic, gave the widgets a light redesign, and added a handful of customization options so you can shape the app a bit more around the way you work.
Tool filtering
Probably one of the more interesting changes happened in the tools section, where I added the option to filter and hide the tools you don't use. You can now set everything up in one window: which tools you want on Home, which ones you want to see in the Tools tab, and which ones you don't want to see at all.
I think it's a pretty useful setting. I'm trying to pack as many tools into the app as I can, and it's only natural that nobody uses all of them — so there's no reason to make you dig through the whole pile every single time.
You can add 8 Quick tools to Home (formerly Favourite tools). The Tools tab has no limit, so you can obviously pick all of them, or just the ones you use most. Personally, I've got the ones I use constantly on Home, a set of "every now and then" tools in the Tools section, and everything I basically never touch is hidden completely.
I also added the option to sort the tools however you like.
The search bar still searches across all tools, whether they're hidden or not. So if you ever need one of the hidden tools, search gets you there fast. Search works off keywords — type in "fps," for example, and you'll get every tool that has anything to do with FPS.
Home tab customization
I also tried to expand the customization options for the Home dashboard. I moved the settings for what shows up on Home out of Profile Settings and onto Home itself. You now toggle individual sections on and off right there, in the Home dashboard settings.
In the same window, you can also set the order of your Quick tools — and now your Recent projects too. Until now, they were sorted automatically, based on the Pinned logic or on when they were last opened. Now you get to choose whether to sort them by Recently Opened, Date Created, or Next Shooting Day.
Next Shooting Day works like this: the project with the soonest scheduled shoot goes first.
Hero project
The hero project got a refresh too. It no longer shows pinned projects. You either pick a specific project yourself, or you leave it on autopilot — Recently Opened (the last project you opened) or Date Created (it'll always show your newest project).
There's one more feature in the hero project: it can also show the project with the nearest shoot. In Customize Home, you set an interval — 1, 3, 7, or 14 days. If any project has a shooting day scheduled within that window (say, three days from now), a second hero project card shows up with that project. Swipe left and right to switch between your default hero project and the one with the next shoot.
Projects
I got rid of pinned projects and replaced them with "Groups." It just felt more logical — you can now split your projects into something like "Art films," "Corporate videos," "Real estate videos," and so on. Or you can create groups by client, or by whatever else works for you.
New sorting options in Projects:
- Deadline – projects with the nearest deadline come first
- Date Modified – most recently edited projects come first
- Date Created – the classic, newest projects first
- Name – good old alphabetical order
Discord community
I've started a Discord server where I'd like to bring together a filmmaking community. I added a link to it in Profile Settings, under useful links.
The whole thing is still in its very early days, so honestly, there's not much there yet — just a few basic channels. But I can picture a pretty great crew coming together there: getting into filmmaking discussions, sharing their work with each other, trading advice, that kind of thing. We'll see where it goes. If you're up for it, feel free to jump in — I'd love to see you there.
And as always: bugs and polish
As usual, the update also brings under-the-hood improvements and bug fixes.
And as always, I'd love to hear your feedback or any ideas for improvements.
